Oy: According to chabad.org - "Oy" is a very old Jewish interjection which means "woe."

One thing is obvious....some of us must have upset the sports gods. How else can it be explained? Have you noticed any parallels between the 2008 New York Mets and 2008 New York Jets? If you're not a fan of either, then you probably haven't noticed, but if you're a fan of both the Mets and the Jets, then you will attest that this year, unlike any other, has caused disappointment, anxiety, embarrassment, disgust, and outrage. The sports gods must be crazy...but they're merciless too. Oy. Look at the similarities:

Mets: Acquire Johan Santana making the Mets the pre-season "team to beat" in the NL East.
Jets: Acquire Hall of Famer to be Brett Favre, making the Jets the "team to beat" in the AFC East.

Mets: Start out slow despite high priced talent.
Jets: Start out slow despite high priced talent.

Mets: Over-matched manager makes silly decisions which costs team numerous ball games.
Jets: Over-matched coach devises ridiculous game plans and makes poor calls leading to games lost.

Mets: Manager is unable to manage high profile players and loses respect of players.
Jets: Coach unable to utilize Favre's talents and loses respect of players.

Mets: Uninspired and emotionless manager is fired mid-season.
Jets: Uninspired and emotionless coach should have been fired pre-season.

Mets: Team teases fans by putting on an impressive run putting them atop the standings.
Jets: Team teases fans by putting on an impressive run putting them atop the standings.

Mets: Mets collapse at seasons end and miss the playoffs again.
Jets: Jets collapse at seasons end and (barring a miracle) miss the playoffs again.

Mets: Fans cry and lament another wasted season while rival Phillies win World Series.
Jets: Fans will cry when Jets miss out on playoffs while watching rival Patriots enter the playoffs.

Mets: Ready to move into new stadium while trying to downplay collapse.
Jets: Will move into new stadium while trying to downplay collapse.

You can't make this stuff up ladies and gentlemen. Is it any wonder why Mets/Jets fans are ready to give up sports in order to preserve life...(their own lives or the lives of loved ones who are within proximity of sharp objects)? What the Mets and Jets have put their fans through is enough to make any fan give up sports forever. Of course, there will be some Met fans who are Giants fans, and the "glass will be half full", as Eli and the Giants make another Super Bowl run, but to be a combined Mets/Jets fan..... oy. The glass is just plain empty. An MLB championship hasn't come to Queens in 22 years. The Jets...well, it's been almost 40 years and counting. But to come close and not win it or close the deal....oy.
