Now that the Hot Stove League has officially begun, it's time to guess, and it is nothing more than a guess, as to where certain free agents will go to become richer than they already are.
CC Sabathia
Who should sign him: Phillies - Imagine if the World Champions added Sabathia to their rotation? He and Hammels
would be a lethal 1-2 atop the rotation. Signing Sabathia would instantly make Philly the team to beat in 2009.
Who will sign him: Dodgers - They won't resign Manny, but that money could be used to sign Sabathia.
Mark Teixera
Who should sign him: Yankees or Diamondbacks - An injury-free upgrade over Giambi with no controversy. The D-Backs need
power from that position.
Who will sign him: Angels - They won't let a good thing get away.
Manny Ramirez
Who should sign him: Mets - They need a run-producing right handed bat that won't fold down the stretch.
Who will sign him: Dodgers - He became a fan favorite and put on a hitting clinic that impressed the Dodgers.
Other teams may be wary of the baggage.
Francisco Rodriguez
Who should sign him: Indians - They need a solid closer who can be counted on day in and day out.
Who will sign him: Tigers - Todd Jones is no more and Tigers are due to hand out another silly contract.
Pat Burrell
Who should sign him: Phillies - Why break up the nucleus? Burrell has been a solid Phillie for years.
Who will sign him: Phillies - Feel good emotions will help and Phillies will retain Burrell.
Adam Dunn
Who should sign him: Diamondbacks - They need to keep his power in an otherwise morbid lineup.
Who will sign him: Yankees - Unlikely if they resign Abreu, but Yankees only want him for one year.
AJ Burnett
Who should sign him: Twins - They can't afford him, but the Twins need him as their number one guy.
Who will sign him: Mets - The Mets will sign him, Lowe, or Sheets. My bet is on Burnett.
Ben Sheets
Who should sign him: Cardinals - They need a big time arm, but will he sign with former Brewer rival?
Who will sign him: Astros - Just a hunch, but Sheets and Oswalt would be intriguing.
Ryan Dempster
Who should sign him: Dodgers - Someone will need to replace Penny and Lowe if they depart.
Who will sign him: Yankees - They need starting pitchers, especially with Mussina retiring.
Joe Crede
Who should sign him: Giants - They need some punch, and Crede could provide it.
Who will sign him: Indians - Marte is not the answer for Cleveland at 3B.
Bobby Abreu
Who should sign him: Cardinals - They could use a decent bat in that lineup.
Who will sign him: Mets - Abreu makes an attractive fall back option to Manny, and he can handle New York.
Orlando Hudson
Who should sign him: Yankees - They should deal Cano for pitching and sign a veteran 2B such as Hudson.
Who will sign him: Diamondbacks - They want him back, but White Sox may want him more.
Derek Lowe
Who should sign him: Mets - Probably the best fit for Mets than any other free agent.
Who will sign him: Cardinals - Just a hunch play, but the Cardinals are looking for starters.
Rafeal Furcal
Who should sign him: Tigers - They let Renteria go, and Furcal would be an upgrade.
Who will sign him: Dodgers - They don't want him to get away.
Orlando Cabrera
Who should sign him: Cardinals - He does better in the NL and Cardinals have an opening at SS.
Who will sign him: Cardinals - They need his leadership to steady the infield.
Jon Garland
Who should sign him: Mets - Will put up decent win totals for a contender. Mets could use him.
Who will sign him: Cubs - Could replace Dempster in the rotation.
Oliver Perez
Who should sign him: Rockies - They need arms in a big way and perez would be ideal.
Who will sign him: Angels - Could replace Garland in the rotation.
Kerry Wood
Who should sign him: Braves - Should sign Wood and return Gonzales to set up role.
Who will sign him: Cubs - May reward Cubs for their patience with his injuries.
Brian Fuentes
Who should sign him: Mets - Won't be as expensive as other closers. May not get more than a one year deal.
Who will sign him: Mets - He makes too much sense for Mets to pass on him.
Brad Penny
Who should sign him: Blue Jays - Could fill in for Marcum, and probably Burnett.
Who will sign him: Braves - Could take a chance that he stays healthy.
Brandon Lyon
Who should sign him: Nationals - Why not? How many other teams will entrust him as their closer?
Who will sign him: Diamondbacks - May feel sense of security in Arizona.
Casey Blake
Who should sign him: Dodgers - Blake's acquisition helped the Dodgers even before Manny arrived.
Who will sign him: Dodgers - They like him enough and should offer him a decent package.
Raul Ibanez
Who should sign him: Braves - He's an RBI machine for the right club.
Who will sign him: Cardinals - Just seems to be a good fit in St Louis.
Pudge Rodriguez
Who should sign him: Marlins - It worked once before...could work again.
Who will sign him: Mets - Can see him splitting time with Castro behind the plate.
Mike Cameron
Who should sign him: Brewers - More valuable than teams realize. His glove is a big asset.
Who will sign him: Yankees - They like his defense and his occasional power.
Jason Varitek
Who should sign him: Mets - They need his veteran presence.
Who will sign him: Red Sox - Could resign for another year.
