Tom Brady
Many will disagree with this, but I think that Tom Brady not playing in the pre-season may have played a part in his injury.
Brady has never had a serious injury, and for good reason. He's been good at avoiding injury. Is there a chance that Brady
could have avoided the injury if he were game-ready and saw the potential injury coming, therefore trying to avoid it? Perhaps
Brady was rusty and had a slight lapse. It may very well be a stretch, but it is worth a thought.
NFL Pre Season
If we have learned anything at all, we've learned that prolonged layoffs for players are not good. Peyton Manning didn't take
a snap in the pre season, and it surely showed in his first game of the season. Braylon Edwards was awful in his
first game since injuring his foot early in camp having not played the last three exhibition games. Last season, Gruden rested his regulars the
last two games of the season, and come playoff time, his team looked dead. Taking a week off has little effect on players, but
it appears that two or more weeks off can hurt performance in a big way. Granted, you don't want your superstars hurt in
pre season, but they need some game time play to be effective.
Carlos Delgado
Thank you for making me look better with each passing day.....nuff said.
Wait And See-hawks
I still maintain that the Seahawks will contend for the division, but that's because the rest of the teams in the division are dreadful.
(though Arizona is on the rise). When playing good teams this season, Seattle will get hammered, as they did against a solid,
but not spectacular Bills team. The Seahawks should be grateful to have the 49ers and Rams in their division, or the playoffs
would not come to Seattle. This team has no receivers with Burleson hurt, and Hasselbeck does not look healthy...or
good for that matter.
Mets Docs Do It Again
Isn't it time someone starts questioning the Mets team doctors? I've stated all year that
they mishandled Church's concussion, El Duque's bunions, allowing Maine to pitch while hurt,
and now Billy Wagner has gone from what was thought to be a strained forearm to Tommy John surgery.
This is becoming a serious issue for the Mets, and they need to overhaul that medical staff....STAT!
Fantasy Football in Disarray
Tom Brady's injury will have far reaching fantasy implications. First of all, all Brady owners are sick to their stomach.
Brady was so solid, that you'd have expected him to come out of the starting lineup as often as Cal Ripken Jr. missed a game.
But Randy Moss and Wes Welker owners can't be too happy either. And how valuable will the New England running backs be if the
passing attack stalls? And will the Patriots defense spend more time on the field without Brady controlling the clock? This is
a defensive unit that is still good, but they're not getting any younger. They could tire down the stretch.
Flying High in Atlanta
Perhaps the offense in Atlanta isn't as bad as we thought. Turner, Ryan, Norwood, White, and Jenkins make up a pretty decent
offensive attack. The Falcons will win and lose many high scoring games because of their weak defense, but they may be fun
to watch as their offense puts points on the board.
Lance to The Rescue
Lance Armstrong is rumored to return to the Tour De France next season. That means I will go from watching 0 minutes of the race
to about 4 minutes. Talk about a ratings spike.
Hank Has Joe's Back
Hank Steinbrenner has stated that Joe Girardi will be back to manage the Yankees next season. Prediction: Next season will be
Girardi's last season managing the Yankees.
Who Needs Him?
The Astros are 20-8 since Carlos Lee was lost for the season due to injury. Maybe Wacky Wade knew what he was talking about
when he claimed his team was still in the playoff race back in July. This team is just 1/2 game behind the Cardinals in the NL Central.
MVP Commercials
Those ESPN commercials featuring the MVPs of weddings, funerals, honeymoons, etc... are pretty lame.
Loser
I try to stay away from calling any athlete a loser, but I knew from the get-go that Matt Leinart was a loser, and I don't
think he'll ever be a winner in the NFL (ala Ryan Leaf). I recall while at USC when a dejected Leinart lost the big game to
Vince Young and Texas. During the press conference, he looked down the entire time and acted like a spoiled brat. Watching
that press conference back then, showed me that he was never going to be a winner. Leinart was a product of a good system.
He's not a good QB, not a winner, and in my opinion, never will be while playing in the NFL.
Shaking the Cob-Webbs
Brandon Webb's struggles have opened the door for Tim Lincecum to win the NL Cy Young Award. Quite frankly, Lincecum
deserves it...Webb does not.
Do The Math
The NFC West combined to score 49 points between all four teams. By comparison, the Broncos scored 41 points themselves.
Giant Steps
The Giants are closer to first place in their division than the Yankees are in their division.
Blue Jays Blues
The Blue Jays are ahead
of the Yankees in the standings. Perhaps this Blue Jay team could have benefited had General Manager JP Riccardi had
gotten off his butt and made a few deals during the season. Regardless of what happens this season, Riccardi should
(but won't) be fired.
