The Mets have decided to use Mike Pelfrey every sixth or seventh day as opposed to having him take his regular turn
in the rotation because he's never pitched this many innings in a season. Is it me, or is this nuts? Don't the
Mets realize that they're in a heated pennant race, and they need their second best pitcher to take the ball every
fifth day? He's a big boy who can handle the workload. This decision came from Omar, and is absolutely ludicrous.
What happens next year when Pelfrey approaches another new high in innings pitched....does he wind up losing starts
again? If the Mets lose the division by a game or two, they can look back at the nights Pelfrey should have pitched,
but didn't because of this decision. Who are they going to use in his place...Brian Stokes? Come on.
Is it me, or does it seem strange that the Red Sox would gamble with unproven pitchers like Charlie Zink (following Clay Buchholz
demotion), rather than going with a proven winner in Justin Masterson? Sorry, but they've mishandled Masterson in my opinion.
His future needs to be in the rotation...not in the bullpen pitching in the seventh inning of games.
Is it me, or was it odd seeing Carl Pavano pitching...and actually winning a game for the Yankees? It sure would
be nice to think he was motivated to return by his teammates, or by his GM, or by his excitable owner, but the
truth is that only one man motivated Pavano to return, and that was his agent who needed to remind Pavano that he's in the
walk year of his contract. I don't care if Pavano goes 7-0 down the stretch, a team would be foolish to give him any
contract beyond a one year deal.
Is it me, or is the season starting to unravel fast for the Rays BJ Upton? If anyone deserves the "been in
the wrong place at the wrong time" award, it is him. Granted opposing teams can feed off of continuous mistakes,
but geez...he's making all the wrong moves. He needs to bust his butt on every play...period.
Is it me, or is the tradition of having the team swarm the plate to pound the hitter who hit the game winning
homerun into submission getting kinda old?
Is it me, or does the Mets medical staff leave you scratching your head in disbelief? They botch up Ryan Church's
concussion, they shut Billy Wagner down due to inflammation, while they allow John Maine to pitch with bone spurs. They
permitted Moises Alou to return too early from an injury. And for crying out loud, El Duque missed the entire season
because of bunions....not a pull, not a tear...but bunions. Could they not have fixed that? So...next time you want
to take extended time off from work due to illness, go visit the Mets doctors. They'll find a way to turn a common cold into
pneumonia.
Is it me, or is it just plain ridiculous that the IOC decided to drop baseball and softball from the Olympics?
I guess archery and ping pong were better ratings draws.
Is it me, or were the Blue Jays nuts to demote Shaun Marcum after a poor start? Granted he hadn't looked the same
since returning from the DL, but he had some quality starts before pitching his last game. It appears
Marcum may have upset somebody in the organization and would up in the minors soon thereafter. How often is an 8-6 pitcher
with a 3.60 ERA sent down to AAA?
Is it me, or does it seem unfair that the Olympic basketball team wins multiple games to earn the Gold Medal,
while Michael Phelps swims a few laps and winds up with eight Gold Medals? I don't want to minimize what Phelps
accomplished, but where's the justice? Perhaps there should be an individual Olympics, and then a team Olympics?
Is it me, or have Josh Beckett, Justin Verlander, and Jered Weaver been big busts this season? Okay, maybe
I'm bitter because they represented 50% of my AL fantasy pitching rotation to start the season (and to end the season).
That would explain why I'm last in most pitching categories (other than strikeouts) in my AL league. I'm sure those
of you who own any of those three pitchers can relate.
Is it me, or is Matt Joyce looking like a bonafide Major League hitter? He has one smooth stroke.
Is it me, or is Jayson Werth a 35HR guy who is caught in a numbers game in Philly? If Werth can ever find a
starting gig, he would put up eye-popping numbers.
Is it me, or was the Little League World Series more fun to watch than the Olympics?
Is it me? Please, be honest...did
anyone actually watch and enjoy the ping pong? If not ping pong (let them call it table tennis if it makes them
feel better), were you on the edge of your seat as you watched the sailing competition? Did you find the judo and
fencing "must watch" TV? I can see why they'd decide to get rid of something unpopular like baseball in favor of sailing
and taekwondo. And I'm sorry, but I only laugh when I watch synchronized swimming. First, I can't believe synchronized
swimmers are called "athletes", second I can't believe a medal is actually given out for that, and third, I
still think of the SNL skit from many years ago that spoofed synchronized swimming as an Olympic event (if you've
seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about).
Is it me, or is Ricky Nolasco looking more and more like a future Cy Young candidate?
Is it me, or does it seem odd that the Giants are closer to first place in their division, than the Tigers and Braves
are in their respective divisions? The Giants actually have a ten game lead on the Padres in the NL West.
Is it me, or does Jeremy Schaap leave you flat too? He just seems to have no personality, no sense of humor, and no emotion. I did enjoy seeing him go off on Bobby Fisher, but that's about the extent to which I have enjoyed listening to Schaap.
