Quarterback Advice

Fantasy 2008

Breakout Quarterbacks
Matt Schaub An injury slowed him last season, but he's as accurate a passer as there is in the league. If Houston improves its run game, it will open the field for Schaub. He's a great QB2 to have on your roster.
Trent Edwards He may not tear it up, but he should be solid and find Lee Evans more frequently. He has a decent makeup and should prove to be more than adequate, though the Bills need to be more aggressive on offense.

Sleeper Quarterbacks
J.T. O'Sullivan Granted he plays for a bad team, but he may just show enough to be a halfway decent QB2 to use during a bye week. He looks to be more talented than Alex Smith.
Chris Redman With Matt Ryan looking over his shoulder, this scenario looks alot like the Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn situation that played out in Cleveland last season. Redman was respectable last year, and he has a decent arm and presence in the pocket. Don't assume he loses the starting gig because of Ryan.

Bust Candidate Quarterbacks
Jason Campbell Just when he was getting comfortable with a new offense (again), Jim Zorn comes in with an entirely new system. Campbell has a great arm, but seems to be slow to picking up a new offense. He's also returning from injury. A slow start by Campbell could pull your fantasy team down. Draft with caution, as there are better options out there.
Marc Bulger His best days are clearly behind him, and he just doesn't look like the same QB. To make matters worse, Steven Jackson will start the season behind the eight ball due to his holdout, Holt is slowing a bit and longtime receiver Isaac Bruce is gone. This could be the year Bulger loses his starting job. He's clearly high risk and not worthy of a draft pick at this point.
Aaron Rodgers This one has "ugly" written all over it. He's not horrible, but I don't see him stepping in and being a top notch QB. Once the losing and incomplete passes mount, the ghost of Favre will rear its ugly head. Rodgers will struggle this year.
Jake Delhomme I can see him getting smushed by defenses this season. Delhomme won't get alot of protection, and that doesn't bode well for a QB who is coming back from arm surgery. This offense is going backward.

Quarterbacks Who Should Do Better This Season
Jay Cutler He should have a better season with improved receiver options. Don't overlook his ability to run the ball as well. Cutler should be a great QB2 on your team, and will probably be available in the 7th round or later.
Tavaris Jackson I said better...not necessarily good. Actually, with Berrian joining the Vikes, Jackson should improve, but he still has a way to go. He'll only be a viable QB2 option if the Vikings play a team that is weak against the pass. Jackson will improve...how much he improves is another matter.
Kyle Orton Don't overlook him. He has a great W/L percentage, and he's not quite as bad as the Chicago media makes him out to be. He's smarter than Grossman. He won't have many 300 yard games, but he will finds the end zone on occasion and keep the Bears in most games. As for your fantasy team, he may develop into a QB2 in the second half of the season.

Top Five Projections
Tom Brady Still the top gun.
Carson Palmer Much better than his play/results last season
Eli Manning Surprised? Manning will throw more and his confidence has to be at an all time high right now.
Peyton Manning He may start out slow...he won't finish slow.
Derek Anderson Too much talent around him not to succeed. Don't fall for the Brady Quinn hype. The Browns signed Anderson to a long term deal to keep him as their starter.

FYI No Tony Romo? He's talented and should have a good year, but his confidence seems to be somewhat rattled, and a few poor games early on could result in immense pressure from media and fans. Don't be shocked if he struggles early on.
